adidas and Parley for the Oceans announce another Run For The Oceans
Based on the love for sports and social responsibility, adidas and Parley for the Oceans announce today another edition of the Run For The Oceans, a global movement that uses the power of sports to raise social awareness about the threat posed by marine pollution through plastic.
Through this global initiative, adidas and Parley call on their global communities from June 8 to July 8 to take action for the protection of the oceans, which are increasingly threatened by human-caused problems such as pollution, littering, and the growing consumption of disposable materials - like the plastic that ends up in the sea and threatens marine life. Since 2015, both have been partners and have been working together to bring attention to this issue, as well as presenting creative solutions such as the use of Parley Ocean Plastic™ to make adidas x Parley products.
Taking the initiative to another level in 2018, adidas will match each kilometer run with $1 to support the Parley Ocean Plastic Program, focusing specifically on the Parley Ocean School initiative, which educates and empowers the next generation of Ocean Guardians through immersive experiences in the environment we are fighting to protect. With aquatic sports activities in schools, the program introduces young people to the underwater world, teaching about the impacts of marine pollution from plastic, as well as providing tools and inspirations to protect their future through the Parley AIR strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign).
To further strengthen their relationship, adidas and Parley will hold a series of running events in key cities around the world, including Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Barcelona, Milan, Shanghai and São Paulo, and are mobilizing the global adidas Runners network to organize weekly initiatives worldwide.
Runners from different countries can also register and track their runs on the digital platforms of Runtastic and Joyrun (in China) to contribute to the goal of running one million kilometers in a month, joining ambassadors Shaunae Miller, Tori Bowie, Wayde Van Niekerk, among other athletes who will join efforts to spread this message, like former Brazilian player Kaká.
Inspired by the fragility of the oceans, adidas Running will reveal the new UltraBOOST and UltraBOOST X Parley in a limited collection, which combine high performance technology in running shoes with progressive ecological innovation. The high-performance products with great purpose demonstrate adidas and Parley’s commitment to combating the main ocean threats, one step at a time. Combining the energy-returning midsole BOOST™ and 95% of the upper made of Primeknit Parley Ocean Plastic™, each pair prevents approximately 11 plastic bottles from entering our oceans. Available in shades of blue and a pearly white, the models will arrive in Brazil starting June 20, priced at R$799.99.
Everyone can join the movement by downloading Runtastic and accessing the Run for the Oceans group to track every step between June 8 and July 8.
