C.P. Company brings "Eyes on the City" to São Paulo, along with Misael.
By the initiative to showcase various cities around the world and their important personalities, C.P. Company, the Italian sportswear brand, decided to land in Brazil. Misael, better known as Neguinho de Favela, was chosen for the project in São Paulo, bringing the brand back to the place he came from: the broke area.
The editorial, photographed by Fernando Mendes, shows a bit of Misael's origins: Real Parque, in the south of the capital. One cannot deny the strong subcultural connections between Brazil and Europe and, to demonstrate this in the best way, the C.P. Company project “Eyes on The City.”
We talked a little with Misael about his view of the current scenario of subcultures. Check it out below:
What similarities do you see in the peripheral culture of Brazil and those from outside?
"Well, the first thing I believe is important to say is that all these communities are seeking respect and to feel included in some social group, what I mean by that, feeling part of something. Therefore, clothes have this value and power; today we have a style that connects all of us from various parts of the world."
What places do you intend to occupy, carrying with you the culture from where you came?
"I intend to occupy a place of a bridge! A place where I can increasingly include people and cultures, always renewing the scene by bringing people committed to culture and passionate about what we do and admire."
How do you feel being an inspiration to so many people and being able to exude this lifestyle?
"I feel very happy and fulfilled, but I also feel an extreme responsibility as if my humanity were stripped away and I had to constantly be an example; this demands a lot from me, but it is the price to pay when you have influence and the respect of many people. But even so, I believe I have been passing a message of humility and commitment to culture, less conflict among people, and more unity for the sake of subcultures."
The photographer, Fernando Mendes, also told us that the fact of photographing for such a large brand and partnering with Misael was a significant step in his career. Check it out below:
What was your first reaction upon learning about the project?
"We started talking at the end of 2022 about a connection that arose through Tica Bertani, who introduced us. When I discovered it would be for C.P. COMPANY, I was shocked, as this was a significant step in my career."
What is the importance of seeing your work today for one of the most desired brands of the moment?
"I was very happy with how everything happened, very pleased to collaborate with Misa who believed in my work for this campaign. I think everything was very fluid and the way I like to photograph, trying to find a unique image of places that have already been explored. It is very important for me to have my work and be seen by international brands because that is what I believe in the most, and it brought me even closer to where I want to be in photography. This motivates me to continue creating images and stories that go beyond the traditional advertising and fashion that tie us down here in Brazil. I believe this is the first project of many to come with Misa and brands like C.P. Company."
