MAD Canned Presents the First collection of 2022 with Satire and New Mascot
A MAD, a Brazilian brand that has been quickly standing out in the streetwear scene,
presents its first collection of the year.
Known for its satirical sense of humor adopted in communication and creations, MAD
came to life three years ago when Luiz Paes, the founder of the project, decided to transform into
products his flirtations with design and fashion. The first collection featured around 10
pieces, each one sewn by Luiz's grandmother, whom he considers a key point in the
history of the brand. In current collections, in addition to the production workshop, Luiz's grandmother continues
to play a fundamental role in making bags, pants, and other pieces
more.
“I say that if you want to know me, just look at MAD. It is my materialization. MAD
is funny, provocative, changeable, elegant; it is different from everything. This relationship with the
humor we have, satirical, questionable, and provocative prints have made me
question the legitimacy of my journey, as it is not something square and just beautiful. This has
left me confused, but every time I tried to escape, those prints came back to haunt me - because this is who I am.” - Luiz Paes, founder and creative director of MAD.

For the first delivery of 2022, MAD brings as key pieces of the collection the t-shirt and the
hoodie with the print of the MADSON duck, the mascot adopted by the brand as a bootleg
of Ralph Lauren's famous Polo Bear. The name was chosen through a contest on the
brand's Instagram profile, in a post that accumulated more than 2,000 comments
with suggestions. Also featured in the collection are the puffer vest with irregular stitching
and the cargo pants made of soft, high-weight canvas - the piece features
tie at the hem, built-in belt, and keychain.
The graphic t-shirts, striking pieces in all of MAD's collections, come in four
different prints. One of them - the most controversial - features a portrait of Chinese dictator Mao
Tsé-Tung. “We love to play with the faces of globally famous people; it’s no
wonder that the most well-known print from MAD features the face of Jesus. There’s a story
in China where the government asked to alter all paintings, images, and tributes to
Jesus for the face of Mao Tsé-Tung, and we did this as satire on t-shirts.”
In addition to clothing, MAD's already iconic crossbody bags are also available in
two versions: bicolor puffer in moss green and brown, and in water-repellent fabric in beige
with adjustable strap.
The sales of the SS22 collection from MAD start tomorrow, 05/05, at 8 PM at
madenlatados.com.br. Prices start at R$149.00 (t-shirts) and go up to R$399.00
(puffer vest). Products will also be available at selected distributors around
Brazil.
