Around the year 2010, a new branch of rap emerged on the streets of Chicago, United States: drill. With a darker vibe than trap, this style stood out as an alternative in the underground scene by addressing everyday issues of American neighborhoods and the explicit violence in its lyrics, like the rapper Chief Keef, considered one of the pioneers of the subgenre who won awards in London and surged with rapper Pop Smoke in its New York variant.
