Rider + Pedro Andrade present new R NEXT
With pillars focused on design, sustainability, and innovation, Rider will launch the new sandal R NEXT on April 29, designed by Pedro Andrade. Partners since 2017, this collaboration marks the long-standing partnership between both brands and begins a new chapter for the designer, who will present the first product of his new homonymous and authorial brand.
Graduated in industrial design and with experience in furniture development, Pedro Andrade brings strong influences from the industrial universe to his creations, but always with an artistic bias. “My authorial brand is an evolution of Piet, which is actually my childhood nickname. It is a step further that I am taking in my career as a designer, creative, and artist, and how I think about technology, sustainability, innovation, and fashion,” says Andrade.
With a different approach from Piet, which partnered on the last collections with Rider, the creative director used the R NEXT sandal itself as the basis for his work. The idea was to explore a different concept of science fiction combined with a sense of humor and a certain strangeness to give a new look to the sandal. The product has the fluidity of the straps and the boldness of the sole, but when worn, it presents another perception. “I wanted to bring something from a horror movie, from science fiction. An allusion to what we are experiencing and the search for understanding it,” Andrade shares about his creative process.
The new sandal was designed from “cradle to cradle.” This means there was concern about the impacts of raw materials on the environment. Like RIDER, and within the policies of the Grendene group, we aim to provide access to products with a lower environmental impact; thus, our products are 100% recyclable and include 30% recycled material, with no components of animal origin (we are Vegan certified by the Vegan Society).
For this product, in particular, we increased the percentage of pre- and post-consumer recycled material to 36%. The straps and the cord were produced from post-consumer recycled PET bottles, and 30% of the sole was made from pre-consumer recycled material, using our own factory floor waste.
In addition, we studied and measured the impacts in terms of CO2 equivalent emissions. This calculation was made with a methodology recognized by ISO, called Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). We measured that the average CO2eq emission of the raw materials of a Grendene product is 1.4 kg of CO2eq and the manufacturing processes contribute 0.1 kg of CO2eq. So, on average, this product emits 1.5 kg of CO2eq, a much lower figure compared to similar models on the market.
With limited edition, the R NEXT + Pedro Andrade collaboration is already available at www.rider.com.br in the P.Andrade e-commerce – www.p-andrade.com and at G DLP | Guadalupe Store - gdlp.com.br/
