After showcasing his own exhibitions in New York and Paris, Samuel de Saboia, a 21-year-old artist from Recife, opens his first solo exhibition in Brazil this Thursday (31).

The exhibition Guardians, curated by Ana Carolina Ralston features canvases and for the first time, it presents cold ceramic sculptures. The theme of the exhibition refers to creatures that walk between light and shadow,
encompassing both sides within themselves. These walking beings are called angels in the New Testament.

Samuel started painting at 13 and began his career quite early, at 15, with a collective exhibition at the Casarão space in Recife. The artist from Recife has participated in several exhibitions around the world, including Paredão at CCSP in São Paulo (2017), The Skin I’m In at Space 776 in New York (2018), and then held his first solo exhibition last year at Ghost Gallery in New York. His works discuss his lived experiences, telling stories of where he came from, as well as broad topics such as love, violence, politics, religion, and various other issues about the world he explores fearlessly.
