The first weeks of the workshop Tom Sachs I.S.R.U (the English acronym for In Situ Resource Utilization) featured various content on how to stay creative at home and showed that it is possible to transform your concepts into creation, adapting workspaces outside of studios and using only what is at hand (at home). Due to the quarantine, the workshop that was planned to take place until 04/12 has been extended indefinitely.

Starting with how to set up your home studio and choose your tools, Tom Sachs gave tips on how to stimulate creativity through drawing, sharing with his followers that outlining solutions for the problems they wish to solve is one of the easiest ways to kick off a new idea or project. On his Instagram, he shared his sketch for a machine called “SAND OFF,” which would be used to solve the problem of excess sand after surfing.

For the next week, the content will focus on the reuse of objects, referred to as “Bricolage” by Tom and his studio friends. For the new challenge, Tom asked for help from his followers: How to recover your earbuds that fell into the drain using only what is around you? The “rescue” will be posted by him soon.
