The Italian company Italcementi developed a type of cement that allows light to pass in or out of the environment.

The material, called i.light, is a panel made of plastic resin and mortar, with several small holes that enable light access to the location where it is installed. Functioning like a large window, the i.light is a sustainable option to save electrical energy during the day.

The i.light made its first appearance in an Italian pavilion at the CHINAPLAS exhibition, which aims to bring together sustainable and innovative ideas for the use of plastic and rubber.

Still in the patenting phase, Italcementi has not yet reported whether the product will be marketed in other countries, nor any information regarding the cost of the material.
