Mos Def announces his retirement and last album for 2016
Yasiin Bey, also known as Mos Def, announced today, through an audio message shared on Kanye West's website, his retirement.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mos Def was not only a rapper but also an actor and an activist engaged in causes of extreme importance. His journey in the music world began in 1994 with the group Urban Thermo Dynamics, later forming the famous trio known as Black Star, along with rapper Talib Kweli and producer Hi-Tek.
Yasiin was arrested in South Africa for violating local immigration laws, for staying in the country longer than his visitor passport allowed.
As a vent, Mos Def sent Kanye West an audio note where he freestyles on "No More Parties In SA," explaining his situation and criticizing the South African government.
Finally, Mos Def announces that he is retiring from his music career and, at the same time, leaving the Hollywood industry. Yasiin also confirms the release of his last album this year.
“I am retired from the recording industry and also from Hollywood, as a consequence. I will release my last album this year. That's it”
