Vans launches the campaign 'The Story of Vans' as a tribute to 50 years of 'Off The Wall'

Vans celebrates its 50th anniversary today as one of the largest action sports brands, as well as an icon of streetwear. To celebrate the occasion, alongside the House of Vans São Paulo, the brand has globally launched 'The Story of Vans', a visual campaign that honors Vans' heritage through artistic techniques.

On March 16, 1966, Vans was opened as just a small family business in Anaheim, California. Initially, the brand manufactured boat shoes and sold directly to the end consumer, without distribution points. Quickly, skateboarders began to adopt Vans' more durable models (initially called Van Doren Rubber Co.), causing the brand to emerge alongside this subculture.

The campaign 'The Story of Vans' honors 50 years of Off The Wall in a series of 5 videos, telling the story of the brand and its influence in the realms of art, sports, music, and fashion. Using a unique combination of animation methods, 'The Story of Vans' employs forced perspective, drawings, traditional animation, cutouts, and the timeless Vans models, all animated using stop-motion, celebrating the history of Vans.

The campaign was directed by Reza Resoli from Pet Gorilla, featuring black and white animations by the French duo Mrzyk & Moriceau. The soundtrack was provided by Beta Patrol, who invited names from different musical genres, ranging from John Herndon of Tortoise to Wayne Kramer of MC5.
