After a period of studying abroad, learning new techniques to be applied to their products, Pace presents its newest collection for the second semester of 2019.

Entitled "Muribushi", the collection brings great references from Japanese fashion and details retrieved from the family of the brand’s creator, Felipe Matayoshi.

Muribushi is a word of Okinawan origin that means Subaru.
Subaru is a Japanese word that means to unite.
The name of the collection came from a book that depicts the arrival of Okinawan immigrants (an island belonging to Japan) to Brazil. The object was found in a pile of books at Felipe's uncle's house.

The new collection is filled with clothing items such as t-shirts made from Portuguese knit, crewnecks, pants, bags, and a headwear line in collaboration with New Era. In the accessories category - and for the first time - the brand offers a line of solid silver jewelry and others plated in gold.

The inspiration from the family

What is it like to put your family’s history into a collection?

Felipe Matayoshi: "I feel that it is in a way a tribute, especially to my Uncle and my Oba (my grandmother, Mrs. Reiko Matayoshi). The collection is filled with memories I lived with them. Until I was 11, I lived in my grandmother's house, she practiced a specific sport with my uncle called Gateball, which is similar to cricket. Their clothing is what caught my attention; most of the time they wore utility vests or fishermen's vests, with tailored pants or jeans. And the collection transitions a lot into those elements. This and the next [collection] have plenty of references that I could witness while they were alive. They were born and lived a good part of their lives in Okinawa and Japan, then came to Brazil bringing all this genuine Japanese heritage with them. This greatly influences my life and our creations. My uncle, for example, only had pants from when he lived there. When he had the means to make tailor-made pants, sewn into the waistband by hand was his height of 1.74m, and his name. This piece served as the basis for one of our pants."

Materials and creative freedom

What points would you highlight as the main ones in this delivery?

Felipe Matayoshi: "The collection as a whole is very special for me and for Ju. We learned a lot and worked hard to make it happen. Generally speaking, in Drop 1, I would highlight the quality of the t-shirts. In a simple way, we managed to make them somewhat special. Anyone who can touch the fabric will feel what I am talking about. Besides being pre-shrunk, we made an effort to create a very high-quality t-shirt, no matter how simple the graphics are. Other than the t-shirts, I really like the material used in the bags; they are materials that have not yet been explored by national brands, of extreme quality, and I feel that it is a real evolution of what we used before."

"Drop 2 consists of pieces that represent a greater freedom of creation and more complex production. They brought substance to the collection as a whole. I, personally, really like the 'fishirt', the shirt that has a fish in a blue box printed on the back; I wear it all the time."

The "Maribushi" collection will be available on October 3rd on the Pace website.
